Spotify’s Top Developers Stop Writing Code, Rely on AI

Spotify revealed during its Q4 2025 earnings call that some of its top engineers have not manually written a single line of code since December 2025, attributing this to the company’s heavy adoption of generative AI tools to accelerate software development.

The company uses an internal AI system called Honk, alongside Anthropic’s Claude Code, to generate, fix, and deploy code. According to co-CEO Gustav Söderström, engineers can now prompt AI (even from a mobile phone) to implement features or resolve bugs, with changes delivered back through Slack and merged to production before they arrive at the office. Spotify credits this workflow with speeding up coding and deployment “tremendously.”
